This is one of the special items for my game, "Arden no Densetsu" in my game design class. Basically, its Suzaku's Necklace. (Yes, my game is based on the legend of the four gods but no, it has nothing to do with Fushigi Yuugi).
There will also be Genbu's Ring, Byakko's Fan, and Seiryuu's Gauntlet. I'm working on the design of Genbu's Ring currently.
Anyway this is a necklace made with Suzaku's feathers. It would give the player resistance against heat, and much higher defense against fire. Although they can only wear it for a certain amount of time before their HP begins to diminish. When this happens, they will have to unequip it and wait a certain amount of time before being able to equip it again. Of course, unequipping it with time still left won't renew the clock, but start back where you left off until it reaches zero and the player is forced to unequip it.
All the special items like this I've come up with advantages and disadvantages, since one of the things I'm getting tired of in some games is how you can get an awesome and powerful item/weapon that easily pwns, but it has no real disadvantage to the player, or something they can easily get around.
Kyaaa!!! Sugoi! Those feathers look awesome!!
There are people who don't realize that the four gods are actually the four gods of kyoto, and not from some anime ...? I thought everyone knew that...
Well there are a lot of people who don't look into the history of behind things. I've run into people who really thought it was created for an anime/manga, and didn't know of the Chinese legend.
Pretty much. But it's not uncommon for close geographical areas to end up sharing things like that. Basically the Four Gods are a center piece to an ancient form of Chinese astrology, and were at some point imported to Japan and adopted there.
